The 13th International Workshop of Advanced Manufacturing and Automation (IWAMA 2023)
To promote academic
exchanges in advanced manufacturing and automation-related research fields both
domestically and internationally, the 13th International Symposium on Advanced
Manufacturing and Automation, co-hosted by Shanghai University of Engineering
Science and Norwegian University of Science and Technology, was held in the
Third Lecture Hall of the First Graphic Information Center of our university on
the afternoon of October 16, 2023. President Yu Tao, Vice President Wang
Yansong, experts and scholars from Norwegian University of Science and
Technology, University of Bedfordshire, University of Yamagata, University of
New South Wales, Moscow State University of Technology, Cardiff University,
Norwegian Research Institute of Technology and Industry, University of
Stavanger, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Shanghai University, and Xidian
University, as well as heads of relevant functional departments and offices of
the university, attended the opening ceremony. The opening ceremony was
presided over by Fang Yu, Dean of the School of Mechanical and Automotive
Engineering.

On behalf of the
school, President Yu Tao, the chairman of the conference, extended his sincere
greetings and gratitude to the attending guests for their presence. He pointed
out that new technological concepts represented by advanced manufacturing and automation
have provided a new technological foundation and industrial ecosystem for
reshaping manufacturing services, and are affecting and changing the world at
an unprecedented speed and in unprecedented ways. Shanghai University of
Engineering Science, leveraging its strengths and characteristics in
disciplines such as mechanics and electrical engineering, has always regarded
advanced manufacturing technology as an important direction for the
construction of first-class universities and disciplines, and has undertaken
the mission of providing a platform for practical application and knowledge
transformation for the development of the advanced manufacturing industry. As
an important conference in the field of advanced manufacturing and automation,
this meeting will present the latest research achievements in automation and
robotics, promote regional and international academic exchanges and
cooperation, and drive cross-disciplinary development and innovation.

The chairman of the
conference, Professor Wang Yi from the University of Bedfordshire, UK,
introduced the origin and organizing concept of the International Symposium on
Advanced Manufacturing and Automation, focusing on the fields of smart
manufacturing, Internet, and intelligent robots. He pointed out that in today's
era, the application of advanced manufacturing and automation technologies in
their respective fields will face new technological challenges, while also
creating unprecedented opportunities for their own development. The symposium
aims to provide a professional interactive platform for academic exchanges for
experts, scholars, researchers, and professional technicians in related
research fields at home and abroad, to discuss trends in the fields of
manufacturing and automation, exchange ideas, and share academic perspectives.

This
international symposium, spanning two days, adopts a hybrid approach combining
online and offline sessions. Over a hundred experts and scholars from more than
ten countries will engage in in-depth exchanges and discussions on the latest
advancements in their respective research fields, jointly contributing to a
splendid academic event.
